A Rare Moment: Getting All Five Kids in One Perfect Shot

As a mum of five, getting all my children together for a family photo is a rare achievement—getting them all looking at the camera and smiling at the same time? Almost impossible! But during the half-term break, I was determined to capture a moment we could cherish forever.

The British weather, of course, had other ideas. It rained every single day. But as luck would have it, just as we arrived at our location in Brandon, Coventry, the rain stopped, and the sun started to peek through the clouds. It felt like a little gift from the universe, giving us just enough time to create some magic.

We chose a scenic spot near Coventry Speedway, surrounded by nature, where the damp ground and crisp air added to the wintry atmosphere. With everyone dressed in shades of blue, the colour palette felt beautifully cohesive against the natural backdrop.

Of course, with five children, getting the ‘perfect’ shot wasn’t as simple as standing in a row and smiling. There was plenty of laughter, playful moments, and the usual chaos of siblings being siblings. At one point, I jokingly asked them to “look like they love each other,” which resulted in some of the most heart warming (and hilarious) expressions.

Some of my favourite images weren’t the posed ones but the in-between moments—the teasing, the giggles, the way they naturally interacted when they thought I wasn’t taking a photo. That’s what makes family photography so special. It’s not just about looking at the camera; it’s about capturing the love, the fun, and the real moments that make up our everyday lives.

Despite the unpredictable weather and the challenge of coordinating five kids, the shoot turned into a beautiful memory in itself. These are the kind of photos I know I’ll look back on in years to come and feel grateful for.

This shoot was a reminder that you don’t need a perfect day or a grand location to get meaningful family photos. Sometimes, all you need is a break in the clouds, a scenic walk, and a whole lot of laughter.
