A Valentine’s Photoshoot: Love, Laughter & a Little Rain

Some of the best photoshoots happen when you least expect them. On a cold and rainy winter’s day, we found a short break in the weather—just enough time to head out to a small park in Binley, Coventry, for a fun Valentine’s-themed shoot with my daughters, Ella and Maisie.

Despite the damp ground and chilly air, the girls were full of energy, ready to embrace the theme with heart-shaped props and playful poses. My older daughter, Lacie, came along to help, adjusting props and offering pose ideas (as well as keeping spirits high between shots!).

We weren’t the only ones out that day—several dog walkers passed by, curious about what we were up to. With heart balloons and themed props, we must have looked a little out of place in the quiet winter park! Some stopped to chat, sharing smiles and kind words about the shoot. It’s always lovely when a simple moment like this sparks conversations and connections.

Though winter might not seem like the ideal season for an outdoor shoot, there’s something special about the soft, diffused light and the way the colours feel richer after the rain. The park’s bare trees and muted tones provided the perfect contrast to the bright reds and pinks of our Valentine’s props, making Ella and Maisie stand out beautifully against the winter backdrop.

This shoot was all about having fun—no pressure, just capturing moments as they happened. From the girls laughing together to quiet, more thoughtful expressions, every image tells a little piece of the story of that afternoon.
